Mac Pro graphics card question

Hi guys,

Just picked up a 2008 octo - love it to pieces. Only problem is it comes with the stock 2600XT GPU. I'm looking to upgrade, but I see the 5870 in the Apple store is a cool £337. Just want to ask you guys advice on GPU releases from apple - do the only ever release new GPU's with new Mac Pros? Looking around I see the new Mac Pros are likely to come Q4 / Q1 2012, and i'm not sure I can wait that long to see if any updated graphics cards come out.

Apple doesn't usually update the GPUs until the Mac Pro update. You could look into flashing a PC card to save some $ (or look at pre-flashed on eBay).
