I am looking to upgrade my 2008 Mac Pro to a graphics card that is able to support Mini Display Port. I am wondering if i can get a 2009 or 2010 graphics card from one of those years model Mac pro. If i do get a new mac pro's graphics card will it work just fine?

I am unsure why it would not but apple is saying it may not and i am curious what any issues might be. Would it be the drivers?, the logic board?

Any of the graphics cards designed for 2008 and above machines (EFI64 firmware) should work, provided your system has all the proper driver updates.

5770 and 5870 cards would both work under 10.6 with the Snow Leopard Graphics Update. Earlier cards (like the GT120 and the 4870) would work under 10.5 and above.

With that being said, the 5770 is probably the best price/performance card available as an official Apple card and it has 2 Mini DisplayPort interfaces.

When you boot with 10.6 without the graphics update, do you get a blank screen with the Ati Radeon 5770 or is there only no graphics acceleration?

Thanks for all the info on this matter. i have been trying to figure this out for a while now.

Thanks
