After getting my Mac Pro in late 2007, I put four SAMSUNG HD501LJ 500 GB 7200 rpm 16 MB cache HDs in it. The increase in heat being generated was making my room a little unbearable when our central air conditioning is set at 71 degrees.

My HD temps were reaching 104 degrees under normal usage. Too much IMO...

Today, I put four SAMSUNG HD103UI 1.0 TB 5400 rpm 32 MB cache HDs in the Mac Pro. What a difference in temperatures being produced. Right now my Mac OS X HD is at 77 degrees. Wow!

The speed differences between the two drives are quite negligible IMO. My ambient temperature is 81 degrees instead of over 90. Big difference and the performance is quite nice. I am not noticing any major slowdown at all.
