I was given an iHAS324 DVD/CD writer that I installed into my older Mac Pro (10.6.8).
I was under the impression that it would work using an IDE to SATA adapter.
It reads and plays discs fine but freezes up when I try to burn.
Additionally, it whirs every few minutes (a quick, double spin?) even when I'm not using it.
A friend told me that I might need to flash the drive but I'm not experienced in this and don't know where to even start.
Is there something that I might do to get it working properly?

If not, does anyone have a recommendation for a good DVD drive?

Thanks in advance for any help that you might be able to provide me with.

In regards to it spinning every few minutes, I never found a solution for it. But I noticed that when I leave a disc in the drive, it doesn't spin up.
