just got the new 6-core 3.33 mac pro.
I wonder if mac pro is only compatible with ecc module, or will be O.K with ecc reg module.
Thanks!!!;)

You can use all types of 240 pin DDR3 with the Mac Pros. Apple only support 1333MHz ECC unbuffered DIMMs.

If you mix non-ECC with ECC then error checking will be disabled. You may find non-ECC modules won't work with ECC modules. Registered DIMMs will not work with unbuffered ECC or non-ECC.

Ideally you should use DIMMs that are sold as being for the Mac Pro, all from the same source and same capacity, but there is a fair bit of flexibility these days.

the xeon cpu will only work with ecc memory, Enjoy

-Intel Xeon works with ECC/Unbuffered or ECC/REG.

-All ECC/REG DDR3 RAM include Thermal Sensor because they have to comply with JEDEC's mandatory requirement of the TS, so can be used in Mac Pro.

-While not all ECC/Unbuffered RAM include Thermal Sensor (since in JEDEC,TS is optional in this category). If you look for ECC/Unbuffered RAM, be sure they include thermal sensor, so as to support Mac Pro.
