Ok, after much debate I settled on the following spec;

Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
8GB (4x2GB) *Bought from OWC (have to wait for shipping!)*
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3
2x 750GB Samsung Spinpoint Hard Drive *Bought from Overclockers UK*
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
Apple Mighty Mouse
Apple Keyboard & Mac OS
Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel)
Five USB ports
Two FireWire 400 ports
Two FireWire 800 ports

Bought through the Higher Education store, and has an estimated delivery window of about 2 weeks.

What say you, the Mac Rumors rabble?

Ummm... Yep. That's a Mac Pro you bought. You betcha. Yes sir.

:p

I'm sure you'll love it. I know I love mine. :D

My only thought is this... not trying to rain on your parade... but the octo 3.0 is really REALLY almost no faster than the octo 2.8... and for the money you might be better off pocketing the $1000 and getting the octo 2.8...

If you check out Barefeats, and others... they show I think about a 7% performance improvement... that's not a linear improvement with what the clock speed SHOULD be...

Just a thought!

Otherwise... sweet system!

Are you looking for a warm and fuzzy for spending your kids' college fund? Just kidding! Congrats, I know you'll love it. If you can though, and this is just my opinion, you might think about sending back the display and getting a bigger/better one from some other company for about the same $ you paid for the ACD. FWIW.

First off, you could have... or you could have... or did you check out... aaahhh gee, just set back, relax and wait impatiently for the beast to arrive. Then ride the beast to bliss.

Just be ready to add a fortune to it as you will want to buy everything for it to make it the coolest. It will be the coolest out of the box.

You might want to invite a few PC friends over but remind them to bring a towel to wipe up the slobber as they gaze on your new work of art.

...enjoy!!!

Eh, I think you'd be better served by a Mac IIfx. It has custom ICs, a bus speed that matches the CPU speed, and even an FPU. MacWorld even dubbed it "Wicked Fast!" and "the fastest Mac ever.

:D

I would have gone for the 2.8 processors and spent the extra cash on a 30" monitor from either Dell or Apple.

Yeah, I had originally planned to have the 2.8GHz and 30" ACD, but I need the extra grunt for the recording studio.

Oh, and I've have neck strain for sitting too close to the 30"! lol

I have already ordered it now, so it's a case of staring out the window for the next 2 weeks :(

I'm from the UK, anyone here had experience importing RAM from OWC? It's such a sweet deal for the 8GB set, I can't pass it up.

ive been waiting forever for my new mac pro to ship, does anyone know if apple ships on the early or late side of their assigned shipping dates?

I did. Took about a week and a bit to get here, really well packed, and i didnt even have to pay the tax.

get another 2gb of ram! 8gb seems a little low for a pro :p

Yeah, If the delivery is quick enough I'll add another 8GB to my "to buy" list.

It's costing enough as it is, I can't afford to drop it all at once, I'm meant to be planning a wedding ;):D
