I recenty did some tests on my girlfriends duo 1.7GHz Vista PC with 3 GB ram and was concerned. I got glitching and dropouts on each instance of NI/Arturia plugs. I know the MBP is a bit of a step up from that but not by a huge amount (about 1/3?).

Ideally I'd like to get a macbook pro as I can use that for a portable DJing ect an save organizing and buying 2 machines. When the quad MBP's come out I know these will satisfy my needs but I need a machine very soon. I want to run native insturments, arturia & korg softsynths, ableton live, logic and fx plugs in particular.

Will a 2.4 MBP be enough or a 2.8GHz or do I need to get the Mac Pro whenever the new one comes out?

you won't need a mac pro for the stuff you want to do. Sounds like overkill to me.

A 2.8 MBP would do just nicely.

Do you think a 2.4 would also do nicely? It'd save me £500 which I can use on an external monitor. Is the 2.4 core2duo a big jump in performance from a 1.7 duo core?
