The stock 320HD has been used solo so far testing the 2008 Mac Pro, updating the system and so forth. Now a Samsung F1 750GB is about to be added, and partitioned to house a SuperDuper clone of the currently installed 10.5.2 system, essential Adobe graphics, Corel Painter and other sundry applications.
As most of you graphics users know, its recommended that its best that the scratch disk or partition should be designated to another drive. However, the original 320GB drive is relatively sluggish, so will a second partition the second partition on the Samsung suffice as a scratch disk?
Yet a third partition on that same drive will be used to write Final Cut and possibly C4D work. With these Im a novice, and for the next year, I expect to use them for not much more than animated web banners and such. As my budget permits, Motion and the like may be added.
I have also an external EIDE 250 firewire backup, which is used for tutorials and general backup.
Does this sound reasonably?
What sizes should they be?
Im moving from a 1.4GHz upgraded Sawtooth, to this new box, so am accustomed to working in tight spaces.
One last word Please, please, dont try to sell me on adding more drives. I know the propensity of forum members to suggest stuffing Mac Pros multi-Terabyte Raid arrays. Believe me, thats just not in the cards an this time!
Thanks
