Just thought I'd share a positive experience with you all (seeing as many posts in here begin with 'help! my Mac Pro just.......':
I just picked up my Apple RAID Card today and have finished the hardware install. I must say that for such a complex method; apple make it kinda easy. (and thats comming from 16years Hardware experience).
The package comes with everything needed (tho the L screwdriver thingy is a bit silly) and it took less than 25 minutes to get it in and rebooted. The SAS cable is a bit of a pain to get routed correctly so the fan unit goes back in, but once done all is snug and seems very secure (Which is good as my baby will be going air-frieght from Gibraltar to Calgary before Christmas).
Upon restarting (with my old Mac Boot disk sitting under the optical drive), I was presented with the 'You've got RAID' style popup and followed onto the RAID utility. That too was a pleasure.
I expected the battery to groan as it needs about a week to fully condition itself, but as I dont need to use the array for a bit its no big deal.
I setup the RAID5 volume (4 x 320GB multi-platter Seagate series 10's) and made my three partitions (Boot, Data and Music).
She is now happily initiallising the partitions with lots of green indicators in the utility.
Edit: 12 Hours later, the battery is charged and all partitions are green and happy
Thanks Apple - that was almost a pleasure. One very satisfied Bunny
