I ordered a mac pro and am waiting for it because I opted for the 8800GT,
but I also ordered 4 gigs of ram with it. That's an extra $500, and I'm wondering if I should cancel my order, and reorder with 2 gigs, and just buy the ram from a 3rd party. Essentially the extra 2 1g pieces of ram were only $450 because I had the student discount. Anyways, let me know what you think. I've been saving for this computer forever it seems, but I'll wait a little longer if its shrewd.

I used the student ADC discount (20%) and didn't even bother to
buy any extra RAM (and didn't bother with the HD as well).
Apple RAM hand HD is way over priced. If you can wait, then I'd
cancel the order and reorder to save money if I were you!

You could have gotten much more RAM with a third party (like OWC). I would cancel and re-order. No harm done since the 8800GT is holding the package.

Instead of canceling and reordering (and having the 8800 make it take even longer than before), try calling Apple and see if they let you edit that part of the order. They should, as it hasn't shipped yet.

I would definately call Apple and ask them to take the extra RAM off your order. You'll get far more RAM (around 8GB extra) for that price at OWC and Crucial.
