Hello,

Last week I've bought a Mac Pro with 10.6.x installed on it. Now I still run a laptop with 10.5.x and was wondering if I can update my Macbook Pro to 10.6.x with the installer DVD's included with the Mac Pro, or do I need to buy another 10.6.x update/installer DVD for my Macbook Pro?

Greets,
RTD

The DVD that shipped with your Mac Pro is not an "installer DVD." It is a System Restore disc. Its purpose is to restore the Mac Pro to its out-of-the-box state in the event of a catastrophic hard drive failure, computer resale by the owner, or some other similarly rare event. As Nermal and so many others before him said, the System Restore disc works only with the specific model computer that it shipped with.

You may use any retail MacOS X 10.6 DVD to upgrade--not update--the OS on your MacBook Pro. Software Update may then be used to update your new MacOS 10.6.x to MacOS X 10.6.7.
