Hello all, I searched a few pages and did not ind an existing or current thread for this so I thought I'd ask here.

Is there any advantage to buying a Mac Pro vs building one? Besides that it runs out of the box.

I'm getting tired of my iMac and will be looking to " upgrade " soon...but my question is...wouldn't it be cheaper to build a custom mac tower that could probably out perform a standard Mac Pro?

It seems everything direct from apple is extremely expensive and that you could build one for lower cost.

This all being said I've never built a pc / mac before...perhaps it'd be better of me to buy an older mac pro and upgrade it?

I want to use this new mac for gaming / 3d modeling.

I've also been thinking about buying an alienwear pc ( or some equivalent ) that I could possible install osx on.

Any thoughts on this would be great, thank you.

Edit: I've been hearing a lot of talk about i7 and SSDs, so I think they are something I'd like to include if I did a custom build.
