Mac Pro 8 core, 8 GBs RAm
OS 10.5.7
I've had Windows XP running on my Mac Pro for over 2 years without issue. I have it on a 2nd hard drive with one Windows partition. Last month, I booted into Windows with the option key, only to get the black screen with flashing cursor. I have no idea what may have happened. Perhaps windows software update tried to do it's own update and failed. I left it there for 45 mintutes before restarting.
I've tried everything to get it to boot again in Windows XP nothing works. I finally gave up on the partition assuming it was corrupt and erased and repartitioned it from Bootcamp Assistant. But now, the XP install disc does the SAME thing. It starts up, then goes to this black screen with a flashing cursor. I am running 10.5.7, but I also tried Snow Leopard, same thing on boot from the windows disc.
I am using a Microsoft XP disc with service pack 2 install.
I tried the following:
Unplug and hit power button
Copy the CD and try from a copy
Change startup disk to windows CD
Boot with C held down
Boot and hit space bar or keys repeatedly
Remove all USB and cables
and a few other things nothing works
I was wondering, can I put the drive in a PC and install Windows from there and then move it back to the mac and try it?
Any advice would help a great deal! Thanks
