mac pro won't recognize memory card

So i just purchased a pny optima sdhc 4g memory card for my camera, however when i put it in the memory card reader on my dell display, the mac won't recognize it. It recognizes another pny card I have but not this one...is there anything I can do or should I just return it and try another brand?

I assume you tried reformatting the card in the camera. If it still didn't work after than, I'd assume it's a faulty card and return it.

another strange thing i just discovered is that the card that used to work is no longer recognized either...Im so lost

If you connect the display to another system does the card reader function work? If yes, you may need to reset the PRAM of the Mac with the display disconnected, and then reconnect it. If not, try a cheap USB SD card reader plugged directly into the Mac.
