When is the next expected update to Mac pro line?
What will be the most likely update? (processor?)
What will be successor processor to the Xeon?

oh ok, so nahalem updates for mac pro are probably expected for Jan 2009 then?

Also, would you recommend waiting for that, or should i just get a mac pro now? Is it worth waiting? Would i actually see 50% increase is speed of the processor?

I'm waiting, but I've been waiting twelve years.

Yes, the processing power increase will be epic. You'll also have bleeding-edge GPUs again. All one of them...

If you need it now, get it now. If not, wait six months with me.

Preliminary tests at Ars Technica are showing that Nehalem is about 20-50% faster for about 10% more power consumed. Definitely worth waiting for IMO unless you just *really* need a new Mac today.

Also, Nehalem will introduce a new socket and use DDR3 RAM, so if you buy a Pro today, it'll be an "end of the road" model without the possibility to throw some new processors in down the road, if that's your thing.

I've been wanting to upgrade my 1.42ghz G4 Mac Mini which I purchased in early 2006 for a while now. I'd like to get a real heavy duty computer as I start diving more into editing and other heavier tasks.

6 months doesn't seem too bad a wait. Any ideas on what the new Mac Pros will go for?
