I am selling a macbook and the potential buyer, who may or may not be real (craigslist posting) has asked for the serial number for the machine. Any reason NOT to provide this information? The mac is no longer connected to my network and has been wiped.

Why would they want this information, and is there any risk in providing it?

Thanks!

So they can check the actual specs of it and to see if there is any AppleCare still attached to it. They may even give it to their local police dept to run it through NCIC to check if it's stolen.

There's no harm in giving the serial number out I don't think.

nope, you should be okay to give it to him. probably to check warranty info and stuff.
