Hey everyone,

I'm a Mac IT administrator, and I am scratching my head as to when Apple will be upgrading their Server products hardware, and what features they might have. The last purchase I made was back in August and we bought a dual G5 Xserve with 3 400GB hard drives. It's a great machine compared to the previous Xserve G4 with Jaguar Server it replaced. Finally upgrading from our Jaguar server to Tiger server was quite a good feeling!

Our media production company wants to purchase an Xserve RAID asap, but they are still equipped with Ultra ATA hard drive buses. We really don't want to buy one of these, deploy it, then watch as Apple surprisingly releases an upgraded Xserve RAID with SATA II buses and optional 150GB Raptor drives (dream a little dream... ;) ). We also want some more Xserves, but who knows when in 2006 those will be upgraded to Intel chips (if at all). There hasn't even been any info on Mac OS X Server becoming Intel native.

There is this curious Apple Support Document created 01/12/06:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303127

Using Mac OS X Server 10.4.4 with Intel-based Mac OS X systems
Mac OS X Server 10.4.4 supports Intel-based Mac OS X clients, but the server must still be a PowerPC-based computer.

This document will be updated as more information becomes available.

So, I'd like to make a call for more Server product inside info, please! I know that the admins here at MacRumors would post information regarding Apple's servers if they came across it, but what I'm requesting is for them to push their sources specifically for Server product line info based on the extreme lack of it recently. If anyone else would want this too, please post here with your support!

PS: I would also love to see a Mac IT section in the forums. Maybe in the Special Interests section? Please show your support if you would too!

Thanks!! :D
