loughborough. u.k.
hi guys,
my macbook aluminum 2.4ghz has been increasingly getting slower as of late, loading pages taking forever, mouse unresponsive when scrolling, beachballs all over the place etc.
well, i have found a solution, i hope this helps anyone with the same problems.
a while back i did a b/u from t/m ok.
well ever since, my spotlight has been indexing sneakily in the background, using up cpu etc.
i solved this by;
enter sys. pref./spotlight/privacy,
hit add button,
add time machine disc.
after this my mac went straght back to normal, fast,clean,smooth,etc. and NO BEACHBALLS!
hope this is useful to somebody.

This got me some time ago. Spotlight will index any and all attached drives unless you add them to the privacy (do not index) list in system preferences.

It is interesting that TimeMachine is exactly opposite. If you want TimeMachine to back up an external drive, you need to remove it from TImeMachine's exclusion list.
