Hi, I know this question has been posted many times but I don`t find any solution for me in the old threads.

I have a 1 year-old macbook, 2GB memory, 160GB disk space of which 30 are free.

Since a while everything slowed down, start up when I switch it on, starting programs, loading of webpages etc. I cannot identify when this started and what I installed or changed to trigger this.

I performed "repair disk permissions", which changed nothing.

I want my old, beautifully performing macbook back, what can I do???

Yeah. I find that I have this problem too. Fan keeps going at 5k rpm for some reason now. I don't know if it's the shell I'm using but it's probably not the case.

Applications have been slowing down (Got my Mac for ~2-3 years already) but that's probably because my "expectations" have grown a lot and I'm used to running tons of applications now.

Going to get Snow Leopard soon so that might make my computer run faster. :)

my fan speed is normal. I don`t want to install Snow Leopard just now, am scared that it will mess up everything more without me understanding how to maintain my system running smoothly.
