I have a Pro Display XDR for my main monitor, and Studio Display as my 2nd/extended.

I currently use the Creative Pebble V2 which are $30, and sound like it  But they do fit under my Pro Display and tilt-only Studio Display.

Since my Studio display does double-duty as my WFH monitor, and secondary personal monitor, I can't use the internal speakers as my 'main' speakers.

TL;DR - I need some short, powered speakers under 4 3/4" or 12cm.

How about a sound bar? They are generally low profile and would likely fit under the display. You could also wall mount it to get it out of the way or mount it under your desk and hide it away.

I had considered a soundbar, but I'm not sure if the sound (or the mounting logistics with an XDR) would be worth any improvement over my cheap-o Pebble speakers.

Not my photo, but you can essentially see the height requirement I'm bound by.

A lot of them are really low profile. My Vizio sounds pretty decent. It's only 2.5" tall. It's pretty wide though. So, it would stick way out on the sides. But there's smaller form factor sound bars.

All the one's I've seen also had mount points. So, you can clear them off your desktop entirely as mentioned.

Mount it to the bottom of my Pro Display XDR?

I realize my thread title specifically calls out the Studio Display, but since the tilt-only Studio display (which I own) is at the same height that I have my XDR, any speaker that fits under the Studio Display will also serve my needs under the XDR. And there's a whole lot more Studio Display owner activity around these parts :)

No, underneath your desk. Assuming a wood desktop. You could mount it upside down. Fastened underneath the desk. So, you don't even see it.

Many have slots. Allowing you to put screws in a surface and mount the soundbar. Such as upside down or on a wall.
