After getting one of the 2021 macbook pros I have been waiting to get an external display to plug in to. After hearing about the Apple display rumors I decided to wait until this past event to see what was announced. Enter the Mac Studio Display.
To be honest I was underwhelmed. Whilst it is objectively cheaper compared to the Pro Display XDR it is still quite expensive for what it is especially when you consider no promotion/mini led/hdr etc.
In my mind I would be better off buying an older 27inch iMac which is cheaper than the Mac Studio Display - it might have an intel chip but at least I would get a whole other computer out of it. I know I would not be able to plug my 2021 MBP into it but with universal control it wouldnt be a problem.
Alternatively I could pick up an LG OLED Tv to use as a monitor which would also be cheaper than the Mac Studio Display. I know the cons of doing this but I've always wanted a bigger display.
Is anyone else out there in the same conundrum? Any opinions on the above? Any recommendations for other monitors to consider?
Thanks
