Mac Studio Kensington Lock

Do you think this is a Kensington Lock slot?

If so, does anyone know the right kensington lock to get for this, so the Mac is still flat on the table?

The one I have for my old Mac Pro is mega chunky...

Very happy to find out it does have one though (if this is one though!).
I work in a garden studio shed and locking everything to the ground is the best from of theft deterrent ?

There is no mention of a Kensington lock in the specs on Apple's site, so it might be something else.
but it sure looks like one, and might be a yet unreleased lock.
maybe contacting Kensington, they might know more.

Almost definitely. Business will want it and I bet the Studio will see good corporate adoption.

I am almost certain that is a hole for a sort of bottom plate releasing mechanism for servicing or at least during assembly. Otherwise you don't get anywhere to access the internals as the chassis is a large dome / bowl of aluminium.

If there is a Kensington lock like above you would expect it mentioned in the specs sheet. Furthermore it should be placed among the back panel ports for horizontal access.

Highly doubt it. Apple haven't exactly embraced the Kensington lock.

Besides, a lock on top of the Studio - Apple would never ever go for anything so stupid and...

Apple themselves will want some way to lock these machines to their tables in the Apple Store

When I saw the photo yesterday I was thinking the same thing even though Apple got rid of using Kensington locks long ago. There are probably posts from me somewhere on MR complaining about that back then.

However that would be really bad placement for it so doubtful for both reasons.

given the promo xray shots show the SDD is likely not soldered, if this is a release mechanism this forum is going to crash

They’ll lock those down the same way they lock everything else down. How many iPhones, iPads and other devices have Kensington locks?

The plot thickens ? I wonder if Apple will sell a specific Kensington lock cable for this then, I had a look at the ones online and didn’t see anything that would fit under the Mac Studio ?

Apple reps have been wrong before, especially with brand new products. The only reason I’m skeptical is because this seems to be the only way to open the mac up, and a Kensington slot would more likely be on the back not the bottom. I guess we’ll see soon!

With Apple saying there are no user servicable parts inside, we may be back to having to use putty knives to pop open the case and/or heat gun to dry out glue

It sure would be an odd coincidence for Apple to put an otherwise unsightly hole that's identical in dimensions to a Kensington slot on a new Mac, if that slot weren't actually a lock slot. The fact that it's a lock slot doesn't prevent it from also allowing a way to removing the bottom plate.

I have seen Dave2D and Sixcolors both claiming they *think* it is a Kensington lock, but neither of them actually tried with a real lock and confirm if it really is.

I myself still think it would be an even bigger joke than the Magic Mouse Lightning port if the lock is seriously facing bottom.

This is also a very real possibility. But sometimes ‘demo units’ are assembled differently by design for those very reasons. I’d have to agree at this point as noted above, it’s likely a lock. And seems apropos given the value here.
