Has anyone else noticed that the Mac Studio’s power indicator light is on solid all of the time if the computer is booted, even if it is sleeping? I really miss the old “breathing” when asleep indicator of previous Macs.

Certainly, this is no big deal, but seems like an overlooked or missed opportunity on Apple’s part.

I noticed it as well. When I first got my Studio I was actually questioning if it was really sleeping. It's no big deal but it would have been nice to have.

The Studio is NOT sleeping. Why would it still spin the fan if it is sleeping? Apple support said there was a sleeping issue with the Studio and their engineers were working on a fix. So, they are aware of an issue and have had a significant number of people call them about the sleeping issue.

While running, the studio and my peripherals (a Studio display and a USB-A hub) run at about 30-35 watts. When sleeping, the draw goes down to 4 watts, so it is definitely sleeping.

My issue was having ask Siri on and connected to a studio display.
Fans kept on even when chime was “sleeping” (at least the monitor was off)

Turn off the ask siri feature and machine sleeps. Yay.

Mine sleeps. Fans off. Light on full when asleep. Annoying. Found this thread as searched as other have thinking this was a bug. Miss the breathing sleep led!

I have had mine go to sleep sometimes, and not other times. It's pretty easy to tell. When it actually goes to sleep you hear a tiny "ping" sound and the fans stop. Would be nice if it was more consistent with actually going to sleep. Hopefully they really will fix it.

This is not the cause. It appears to actually be random. I don't have ask siri on and it occasionally fails to truly go to sleep. Maybe 1 in 5 times right now.

One Apple KB advises that on the Mac Studio, the SIL stays illuminated while in sleep: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-studio/apd0fd69f4be/mac.

Of course, that's if you can get it to into sleep mode. Mine stopped going into sleep mode a couple of days ago. Manually invoking sleep doesn't work and the automatic sleep set by pmset doesn't either – I accidentally left the Studio on all night and no sign of going into sleep. Good to know Apple are aware.

Bottom Line: Too many people years ago noticed sleep is unreliable and Apple got rid of the pulsating light. Its ashame Apple does not want to make sleep as reliable as Windows sleep. Yet they call themselves a green company.

I had the same problem when I got my MacStudio. I looked into the different solution and did not find an easy fix. So I decided to build an external Sleep Indicator. If you are interested you can check out my youtube video. Maybe it is useful for you as well.
