I’m struggling to setup my Mac Studio and was hoping someone might point me in the right direction….

I’ve just connected the mouse, keyboard and monitor and switched it on, for the first time. The desktop is visible in the background (blurry pink and blue) but it’s alternating an image of a disc drive and then an image of the underside of a Magic Mouse. There are arrows indicating that it wants me turn these on. It’s not getting to the setup assistant.

When I press a key on the keyboard, the Mac Studio makes a sound, so it recognises that. Have tried turning the power button off again but the Mac clicks at me, like it doesn’t want me to do that.

I strangely can’t find anything on the net about this and can’t figure out what to do. Apple are not available for a call until tomorrow.

Does anybody know what is happening? Thanks in advance.

Do you have a wired mouse you could plug in via usb-c ? might be the battery in the mouse is low?
The icon about the disk is worrying though, almost suggests it can’t find a suitable drive to boot from. Definitely get on to Apple tomorrow if that continues.

To power it down and start up again, have you tried holding the power button in for 10 seconds? Not sure if that works on the Studio, but on my iMac it forces a restart. Might be worth it just in case it’s a one-off issue with the drive not being detected..

Thanks for the replies. The mouse is plugged via USB A and is switched on. I may try holding the power down for seconds and trying again. I didn‘t know if that might mess up the startup / setup sequence.

So, the good news is that I have it working. Switching it off and on again didn’t work but was did was using the Logitech proprietary usb dongle for the mouse. As soon as i plugged that in (borrowed from my work pc), it progressed and up came the “hello” message.

I’ve been unable to set to mouse or keyboard to connect via bluetooth (both work fine on my Mac Mini), but I can figure that one out tomorrow. I wanted to do a clean install but may resort to the migration assistant.

ps. It’s sooooo fast!

I think the image of the disc drive you mention is actually the trackpad. I remember seeing it when I set up my Mac Studio. The image would alternate between the mouse and the trackpad. The mouse was very easy to identify, but that trackpad image could use some work. LOL

Are you using Apple Mouse/Kbd/Trackpad? Don’t they simply pair to the Studio by plugging them in?

That would make more sense. It looks so much like the old Superdrive.
