I recently purchased a Mac Studio plus Studio Display. Although Apple technicians refer to the Mac Studio and Studio display as separate "devices", only the Mac Studio appears on "My Devices" under my Apple ID. Apple has advised me I cannot add the Studio Display to "My Devices".

I found this remarkable given the display's cost and the fact that it has its computer chip. The consequences for me were that I mistakenly thought I had Applecare + coverage for both the Studio Display and the Mac Studio. My Studio Display has been damaged, and I was advised that Apple~Care+ did not cover it and would have to pay over $A1600 to repair it. As "My Devices" only included my Mac Studio with AppleCare+ noted as current, I (wrongly) assumed that it included the Studio Monitor.

I have asked Apple to let users add their Studio Displays to "My Devices" to avoid confusion in the future.

they may not have explained it correctly, but since there isn't a way to tie it to an AppleID say such as a Mac, iPhone, iPad, HomePod, etc they dont show up there...including the few I have and it's irritating as I did purchase AC+ on all devices and would like to make sure they're all accounted for.

did you purchase the Studio Display on the SAME receipt as the Mac Studio?
If so, perhaps that AC+ of the Mac Studio will cover the display? I didn't see anything in the terms thats it did or did not, because in the past Apple would say if the Mac and display were purchased on the same receipt with AppleCare, the display would fall under that AppleCare plan.

I'd say try and work that out and perhaps they could emphasize with that situation and allow you to purchase AC+ and get the repair done.

AppleCare for the Studio Display is definitely a separate purchase.

And the post above me is correct in that the ASD won't show up in 'my devices' because the ASD doesn't log itself in to an AppleID. These are the only things that show up there. Just as a keyboard or trackpad purchased separately won't. Separate displays have never been listed.

Thanks for your helpful explanation. I ordered the Mac Studio and Studio Monitor online at the same time. However, the Studio Monitor arrived two weeks ahead of the Mac Studio. When the Mac Studio arrived, I hooked up the monitor. Unfortunately, there was a hardware fault with the Mac Studio, and Apple advised me to return it to their store and they would send a replacement. The replacement took another three weeks. So, the Mac Studio and Studio Monitor ended up on different invoices, although they were ordered simultaneously. I (wrongly) assumed when I saw the Mac Studio on "My Devices" with AppleCare+ that it also covered the monitor. If the monitor had also been on "My Devices", it would have clarified that it was not covered. My previous computer was an iMac Pro with AppleCare+ covering both the monitor and computer. Anyway, lesson learnt. Cheers.

dont get caught up on the my devices thing, use checkcoverage.apple.com and supply the serial numbers, thats going to be your source of truth. even if it was returned, those should still be compatible. I would talk to apple and politely ask to speak with a Customer Relations rep to see if they can offer an exchange on the display. if you bought it in store, a manager may be able to review your returns and faulty devices and extend an exchange as well. you can sweeten the pot by offering to buy AC+ for both devices if they can get you taken care of and the mistake of thinking the display + device were covered under the same warranty.

beside the iMac is an all-in-one so the single AC+ will cover the whole unit including display and peripherals (such as mouse, trackpad, keyboard).
