Noticed today that the improvement to .mac syncing (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=3333) means that calendar syncing on a touch can occur even when the touch is connected to a secondary computer (ie not the computer that you use for itunes syncing, and without doing a sync via itunes). I have a mac at home where I sync my touch via itunes, and a mac at work. I connect the touch at work just to keep the battery charged, but with itunes turned off (so I don't delete my audio/video content). Today when I connected my touch to my mac at work (with itunes turned off) the normal .mac syncing updated the calendar on the touch. It works in reverse too, a new entry on the touch (jailbroken) materialised in ical on my computers after a .mac sync. Love it.
