mac technically challenged

Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to Macs. Unfortunately where I live (Malta) there are no One to One's or Genius bars, I could sure do with the training.
I have a Macbook Pro 13.3

What is the shortcut to delete something? I see there is no delete button.

How do I remove the stack of photos on my desktop in one swipe without trashing each individual picture?
