Mac temporarily freeze when external drive starts up

Hello,

Please forgive me if this is in another thread, my keyword ability is near zero.

I have had this problem for some time, on Leopard and on Snow Leopard (don't remember about Tiger), where my mac freezes for 2-5 seconds when my external drives are woken up.

This happens often when I access the "file open" window, it will just sit there until the drive is started.

Nothing fatal, just annoying and I would like to fix it.

That's pretty common for a sleeping external drive. You should still be able to change those settings in the Developer tools if they're installed.
