mac to tv through av reciever

ive been researching this a lot and cant find a thing about it




i just purchased a sony 5.1 audio reciever. i have my imac 20" hooked up via vga with 3.5mm sound to my tv directly.

the question i have is should i go with a 3.5mm to yellow white cable to hook up to the reciever for the sound. or should i go hdmi and get another sound cable for it.

I would use an optical cable with a mini-toslink adapter for the iMac. Just plug it into the headphone jack and the other end to the receiver.

but i want to make sure i can have the sound and video at the same time

It will be at the same time. If not, your receiver probably can compensate.

ya ill give this a go since its the cheapest way to do it atm.
