Does anyone have a set up like this and how do they feel they get the best sound?

Mac mini in living room as media pc.
Audio goes from mini via hdmi to television, then from television to amp via rca.
All eq's are flat.

Its set up like this so that the
1) television remote can be used to adjust the volume when playing media from the mini
2) there is no need to get up and change the input on the amp when switching to watching Netflix in 4K or
OTA channels on the television
The amp is older and not remote control capable.

The question is: should I leave the volume fairly low on the amp and have the television volume higher, or set the volume higher on the amp and lower the television volume?

Thanks for any input.

Listen to see if the noise floor is higher when you increase the volume of your television, or if it's higher when you turn your amp up. Otherwise, leave your amp at a sensible level so you don't get your ears blasted if the TV should suddenly output white noise or have some other kind of audible glitch.
