I have terrible ATT service at my house, so I use MagicJack on my iPhone and iPad all the time and the call quality is great and FREE! I've done some searching trying to find a Mac equivalent to use on my computers at home but no luck.....any ideas??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Skype offers a plan to call any number in the U.S., I purchase the plan for 3 months at a time for about $7-8 but if you pay month by month it's $3 a month.

I don't get any phone number with it, so you'd have to check out the Skype website to see about that (they do offer a service for it). I only use it to place outgoing calls w/blocked Caller ID.

I think you can only sign up for this plan if you register from the U.S. but I bet they would offer other services for residents of other countries.

Oh, and skype has an iOS app as well you can use to place calls. I use it with my ipad and mac and it works great.

I've looked into Skype, but I will only be making random calls from it and don't want to pay anything for the service....even if it is that cheap!
MagicJack is pretty incredible, on my iPhone/iPad....I need to look into running iOS apps on my mac apparently....

Why not just use MagicJack on your iPhone/iPad while at home? Why would you want to make phone calls through your Mac?

I would suggest trying Skype for a little bit, you might find it has vastly better call quality than other programs. (Yes, even if you have to pay for it for a month or two) Calls to other skype users are free, but calling to phones is more representative of your actual usage patterns.

Then again, if MagicJack call quality is good enough, you can go with that.

Google Voice is another option to check out, even though I don't use it and can't say how good it is.

Thats what I do 95% of the time, but I have 3 macs (one on each floor) and my 3 year old loves the iPad and I sometimes forget my iPhone in the car.....it would be REALLY convenient to be able to place a call in front of my comp at times.

Doesn't MagicJack make the app MagicTalk for the desktop?

I second Google Voice. I use it once in a while off my MacBook and it works great.
