It's a late 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina Display running El Capitan

  • At first, Mac was booting and screen was powering up but it was black. Nothing was on the screen but I could see it power up. So I tried all the resets (PRAM and stuff) but it didn't help.

  • I plugged into an external monitor and I could see Apple logo getting stuck half way

  • I reinstalled the OS using the recovery mode with screen closed.

  • Later noticed that the Mac will only boot if I close the lid of macbook right after booting. Otherwise it gets stuck.

  • If I open the lid after booting up, the external monitor will grey out, cursor will move but everything locks up and nothing comes up in the lid screen
What does this mean? Does that mean somehow the screen is blocking the boot up? Almost exactly one year ago I replaced the top lid with one I bought on Ebay to fix cracked screen. No problems until now. Any info appreciated. Thanks!
