my mac will not boot up into the mac os instead I get the install screen but when I try to do a reinstal I can"t cause the disk is read only? What is going on? I was able to see in disk utility the hard drive and mac partion but somehow nothing seems to let me boot or even reinstal.

Mac OS 10.7.4

Are you on the screen where it asks you to choose the destination for the install? Are you choosing Macintosh HD or do you have the Recovery HD selected instead? Select the Macintosh HD in Disk Utility, while booted to the Mac OS X Utilities, and try verifying or repairing the disk. If you should encounter any issues, give the repair a try, and if that fails as well, we start start discussing backing up your computer in preparation for reinstalling the OS. If the repair is successful, try booting the computer normally.
