Mac won't download anything

I'm on a Lombard laptop. Just upgraded the memory to 384MB. I have been trying to download a word processing program. I have tried several - ragtime, neo office to name a couple. I've tried in Firefox and nothing happens. I've tried in Explorer and the download manager pops up and says, "error".
So, what am I doing wrong?

Have you tried downloading from Safari?

If the browsers that you are using are able load web pages then they should be able to download files too.

Edit: I would recommend using Safari also.

I had a horrible time trying to download firefox. I can try downloading safari and go from there. But it should download from IE or firefox. My eMac doesn't have problems downloading off these two browsers.

What Operating System are you on?

Did you run out of hard drive space?

I'm running on OS X 10.2 Got enough hard drive space.
