I'm trying to burn something to a DVD and when I put it in, it just spins around, and then ejects without anything coming up on the screen. Please help!

does it only do this while trying to burn? have you tried a different disk? will it burn cd's? troubleshoot a bit and then post the results. kind of hard to determine what might be going on with limited info. . good luck!

matshita drive by any chance? Give it a clean with a brush type disc and it should work again for a bit... But save up for that repair job real soon- it's on it's way out I'm afraid...

Make sure you use DVD-R, my new MBP ejected +R's, and I got really worried, but -R's work fine. Give it a shot.

I have a macbook pro and it's the model before the one that just came out. So my model is only a couple weeks old. And I tried another dvd, but it still wouldn't work.

well he has not posted any additional info.. has he tried other disks? he has yet to say if he has tried anything. geeze!

When I put the dvd in, nothing happens, even if I have a dvd program open like toast. Then it ejects. So I don't know if it only does it while burning.
And this is a DVD+R that I'm trying. I don't have any DVD-R.

I just tried a CD-R, and it worked fine. And I also tried a They Might Be Giants, music CD which also woked fine, so it looks like it's just DVD+R that isn't working. And it's weird because just about a week ago I burned something to the same exact kind of disc and it worked. Any help?

I have a similar problem to you. I bought my MBP in April this year, and at first had no problems with it at all. I burned all kinds of CDs/DVDs with no issue. Then about 2 months ago it started becoming very temperamental about reading my DVD-Rs that I have. Even DVDs that the very same drive had burned before would be rejected by the drive. Sometimes if after it tries for 1 minute or so to read a disk and then ejects it, you push it back in again it will occasionally recognise it. I am afraid I do not have any solution for you, but I am curious to hear of other people with the same experience. What types of media disk do the superdrives officially support?

I know it may sound dumb, but did you make sure the disc is new and ready to be recorded? Try another machine if you have one.

The Disk is new, but what do you mean "ready to be recorded"?

I actually have an older external optical drive I bought a long time ago and they all work perfectly in that, burning included, so it rules out the disk problem.

call apple

call apple.... even if it's an intermittent problem, why not have them swap it out? Also may want to consider applecare. buy it from ebay.

I have sort good news, I tried another DVD+R, and it worked. So at least it worked this time, but who know how consistent it will be in the future. Very perplexing...

Keep us informed of your progress from here. I would be interested to hear from other people with a similiar problem to my such as you.

Stupid thing! Now it won't work with DVD-R. I don't know what to say, except that I'm disappointed in you, Apple.

Well, I was kinda asking if the disc was empty... I think. But anyways, if it randomly does not burn discs, you should being it to an Apple Store. My MacBook Pro did that and they swapped the drive for me.
