Mac won't recognize HP all-in-one scanner -- except in VueScan!

My MacBook Pro (OSX 10.6.7) won't recognize my HP psc 1315 all-in-one printer/scanner's scanner. No problems printing. VueScan has no problem finding the scanner. But all of the mac software (image capture, preview), AS WELL AS downloaded HP utilities, all fail to see any scanner hooked up to my system.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Same for me. My old HP scanjet 4890 isn't recognized in Imac mid 2010 with patched Catalina 10.15.4
No way to find drivers from HP, can't believe they don't bother at all about their own brand
What can I do?
