Mac:Word 2004 - non-breaking space too small

I'm using Word 2004 for the Mac. On Windows, I use show all characters all the time and rely on it to view paragraph marks, spaces and non-breaking spaces. On the Mac, the symbols are so small as to be almost invisible. Does anyone know if there is a way to make them more visible?
