Macally mini displayport -> hdmi not working?

Hey, I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro (15", i7, 8GB RAM, mid-2010) to my Sony BRAVIA 32E4000 with the said adaptor that I bought and unfortunately it isn't working. I think that the adaptor may be broken as it doesn't work with Windows either, while the HDMI cable works OK with other HDMI devices with the same TV, so it's an adaptor/Mini DisplayPort problem?
Can anyone please help?

To rule out the MiniDisplay Port then try it with a VGA/DVI adapter connected to some device. If the HDMI adapter doesn't support audio you could also go for an Apple MDP to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI cable...
