MacBook 1.1 USB Boot?!?

So I still have a MacBook 1.1 and I descided to put Ubuntu Linux on it... However My CD drive is broken, so i used a usb for this I used Diskutil in terminal to put the img file onto the stick. I have guid and everything enabled.
When I stick my usb in and press alt at start up only my local HD is there...
strange
HELP?
