Hello! New user here, I'm going to school as a journalist, I just got myself a 12" MacBook! Anyone know if its efficient for what I do? just writing, simple documenting, other than school I pretty much binge Netflix, youtube, emailing, music but more so with Spotify and Pandora, no music for me here of Apple Music.

Anybody know what other apps for a journalist/writer ?

CONGRATULATIONS! The MacBook is a highly capable performer in every respect whilst being incredibly good looking, well built and chic. I really cannot think of a nicer computer for university! You'll be the envy of all your new friends.

Good luck with the course and have the time of your life. My university days were the happiest, most amazing times of my life. You'll meet some incredible people!!! Party hard, work hard, travel - see the area and enjoy every second of the experience!

thank you!

I'd recommend Scrivener over Ulysses purely because they've moved to a subscription model and Scrivener is still a one time payment. Scrivener also offers a student discount (though I assume Ulysses does too- personally I've never used it).

As for your battery monitoring issue which was removed a while back by Apple, iStats Menu can give you that back, as well as a whole host of other things you can monitor which I've personally not really dug into.

The 12" Macbook will cover all your needs for what you've listed without breaking a sweat, and Final Cut Pro X runs excellently (it'll even somewhat handle 4K, but it handles 1080p without issue). I loved mine, but eventually sold it due to keyboard issues and some battery problems. However, mine was one of the early 2015 models when they first came out and I've heard that they've come a long way since then. I can even get on board with the revisions to the keyboard they've made. Every now and then I'm tempted to buy another as I love the form factor.
