Macbook 13" 2007 Backlight dies/hard drive sleeps when battery inserted?

Just as title says. Macbook works like a charm, but when I plug in my brand new battery the backlight dies and the harddrive makes that noise and screen is blank. But when its out the Macbook is fine...

I dont know what is it? I'd like to be able to take my mac around the house without it being plugged in.. a pain in the a$$ lol

Theres a short some where on the logic board or the battery itself is faulty
