I currently have a problem with my 2010 polycarbonate MacBook 13" A1342.
Technical data: 2.4GHz C2D, 16Gb 1067MHz memory, 500Gb Samsung 850 Pro, macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra
Specifically, this means that the MacBook reliably crashes after you log in (i.e. when autostart programs like Dropbox or MacsFanControl etc. are started), or when you bring it out of sleep by opening the lid.
It then restarts several times, but the first few times it doesn't even reach the login screen and in 99% of the cases it crashes after login at the latest. Often it doesn't even get that far that I could post the error message here or do an EtreCheck.
Surprisingly I just managed to do an EtreCheck, so I can put the protocol and the error message at the end of the article.
As I understand it, this sounds like the typical 2010 graphics card problem that many MBP users describe. Am I right with this guess?
This software is often recommended as a solution, but unfortunately it is not compatible with the normal MacBook, but only with the Pro. Does anyone know of anything comparable for the normal MacBook, or does anyone have experience with replacing the faulty capacitor as described here on iFixit or here by Louis Rossmann and can recommend it?
I would be grateful for any hint.
