Hi

I'm wondering is anyone technically minded can diagnose my problem based on the information below. Also this might provide a solution - at least a temporary one - for people who have the same problem.

Symptoms - Macbook not charging, Magsafe light very dim green

This is a pretty common fault by the looks of it. However heres the interesting thing.

It did start charging again for a while following a power cut. Prior to this I had a dead battery and it was not even recognized. In fact when the power cut occurred it was not even installed but was running off the AC. At this point the SMC had gone haywire and resetting would not work without a recognized battery - full fans all the time, no CD drive etc.

When the power returned I noticed that the magsafe light was bright green :) ?! I installed the battery and it charged as normal.

Unfortunately after shutdown the problem returned...

So does anyone have any ideas what this means? Why would a power cut, specifically, fix the problem and why only temporarily..?

Perhaps worth trying to replicate if you are having the same problem..

Remove battery
Cut power with magsafe attached
Turn power back on
If light green insert battery

Did you try another outlet?
Did you try to charge it with the laptop powered off?
Have you tried another charger?

Thanks for reply

I have tried all of the above. Cannot get it to charge again :(
