Hey guys, I have a late 2013 retina 15 this morning i noticed my lower case pushing out wards and the macbook not sitting flat on the desk, i removed the cover and saw the battery bulged. I took it into one store they ran diagnostics said battery is good but puffed and then i asked them to go ahead and replace it. They said its a vintage and the battery is discontinued.
I checked with others and they too said the same.
So now i am in a soup. I can manage to find batteries without the top case but i am wondering if prying a puffed battery would be a good idea?
cant find top cases for trustable sites that would ship to my country.
any advices? or should i try prying the battery? Would it be safe to use with the battery in such a state but functional?

If Apple won't fix it any more
and
If you don't want to do it yourself (I can understand that)
then
See if there are any 3rd-party Mac repair places that might do the job.

well I managed to go by a couple of stores that stocked the battery. All of them had brands from unheard of companies, one guy said he had the original battery genuine I asked to see it. Visually packing etc looked genuine tho there was a bit of difference in the text spacing (looked the same as i saw in an ifixit vid). Got it installed for $50. Battery back up was around 60-90 minutes while using photoshop but after the second charge it would drop fast. manufactured date read 2015 and manufacturer was simplo.Took it back and he told me to wait 2 days for a replacement so i got the refund. Went to another store same price but he said no genuine ones just a compatible. It was the same battery the other store sold me. but this had warranty date labels as well. This one is fine gives about 2 hrs at the most but it just dies off once it hits 8%. Has 6 months warranty but wont cover swollen battery and the date too is 2015 with simplo being the manufacturer.
It was really hard getting the old battery out, the guy used contact cleaner spray under the battery to get it out.

Mine had been plugged in 24/7 as a home media server for 18 months. I immediately took it out of service this March after realizing the battery was swollen. It's prepped for recycling, battery <30% while waiting for Apple to reopen, as this thread has discouraged me from a third party repair.

I got a Mac mini now, so no longer need the MBP, but...

if I could get the battery replaced by Apple for the $200 listed online, I'm thinking it would be a useful hand me down computer for a good friend or family member. Agree? I've read that earlier models that year have very recently been declared obsolete, and that if Apple will still service the 15", that they sometimes only quote the replacement of the entire top case ($$$). If so, I'll just let them recycle it then.
