I just did the VRM mod and its made my MacBook actually usable. I took a bunch of pics to help those who are interested.

I haven't done benchmarks yet, but before the mod it would throttle even when idling unless I disabled TurboBoost. I run 4 external monitors + one internal display I should say.
Now I can simultaneously record OBS @ 1440p, run Lightroom, Photoshop, code builds, WebGL webpages, etc. without any throttling. Stress tests do result in throttling but only when CPU > 100C and once the CPU temperature returns to 95C, it can maintain 4GHz whereas before it would throttle to 1Ghz for a few minutes and lock up the entire OS, and I could only make the laptop usable by sleeping it for a minute or two...which was also a battle to disable all the services that prevent macOS sleeping properly.
