I believe you're thinking of the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar was moved away from the keyboard by a fraction of a millimeter to avoid accidental touches.The review on this site said they moved the trackpad a bit to make it less likely to be accidentally touched.
For the familiar long list of reasons, I never left my 2015 MBP 15" - So, are my suspicions true? Does having an oversized trackpad cause issues with, say, typing (cursor suddenly jumping elsewhere)?
In my 3 years of use that has either never happened or I haven't noticed it happening.
