My friend has bought a macbook 2,1 which has 1GB of memory and a core 2 duo processor. The OS installed is 10.5.8.

What are the upgrades that can be done on this macbook and whats the latest operating system that can be installed on it?

Thanks.

MacBook, MacBook Pro: Replacing the Hard Disk Drive, transferring data to the new HDD

the guide includes:
  • 0. Identify your MacBook or MacBook Pro
  • 1. Getting a new HDD
  • 2. Guides to replace the internal HDD with a newer one
  • 3. Transferring data from the old HDD to the new HDD
  • 4. Using the optical disk drive (ODD) slot for placing an SSD or HDD inside the MB/P (OPTIBAY)

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is the maximum OS.

You can find specs on all Apple products, including maximum RAM and newest OS version:

Thanks for the reply. Its a 13-inch Mid 2007 macbook. Do you think that its a good idea to install lion on this? would that be fast enough If the RAM and the HDD is upgraded ?

Since only the late 2007 MacBooks can use more than 3 GB RAM (6 GB to be exact), Lion might be a ***** experience, as 2 GB is the bare minimum for it and 4 GB is the recommended minimum for it.

Please give me more opinions on the SL VS Lion for this mid 2007 macbook? I'm still not sure which OS to be installed on this. Are there anyone running Lion on this specific macbook?

As I am not a Lion fan, I can't offer an objective perspective.
But since you need Snow Leopard to install Lion, you need to get Snow Leopard anyway. Why not test Snow Leopard for a while? It is just an OS, a very good one, or are there elements in Lion that you need to have?
