Hi,

i'm going to replace my old HDD for a Vertex 3 SSD. I got an MacBook late 2008 model, will i get the full sata ii speed with this SSD? (so 3.0 instead of 1.5). I see that you need to update the firmware to achieve the sata ii 3.0 speed is this correct?

Umm, that's a rather old SSD, but I've got an agility 3 in our 2007 iMac that works around 200 MB/s.

It is using a SandForce controller and the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller in the Late 2008 MacBook does not like the SandForce drives very much. It will likely revert to SATA I. Not always though as I have a couple using Kingston SSDNOW V300 drives with SF controllers working at full SATA II getting close to 300 MB/s.

If it's a drive you already have, go for it. Even at SATA I it's far quicker than the HDD. But if you're getting a new one go for a Crucial or Samsung drive. Pretty cheap on Amazon.
