I have an adaptor that works in my 2012 MacBook Air But not the 2010 MacBook.

I'm going to get another 2010 MacBook to replace my Brocken one.

My understanding is this is because the air is thunderbolt as well and the MacBook is not.

the adaptor has VGA/DVI/HDMI on it.

what do I need for the MacBook?

Think it mini display port? or is it mini DVI?

I'm a little confused.

I believe it's "minidisplayport" (but NOT thunderbolt).

You need one of the following:
- Minidisplayport-to-DVI
- Minidisplayport-to-VGA
- Minidisplayport-to-HDMI

I'd try the DVI cable first.

Hmmmm....
Why replace a 2010 MacBook with another 2010?
Why not get something newer?

Thanks but A) I actually like the 2010 MacBooks. but B) money I can afford the £100 for a 2010 MacBook but cannot afford the 300-500 for the 2012 MacBook Pro I actually want.

So for time being I just get another 2010 until can afford a newer model.

the VGA or DVI be better for me as have a dvi Cinema Display and do not have a HDMI screen.
the 2010 is not thunderbolt no. the adaptor from the 2012 air fits the 2010 MacBook but none of the 3 outputs work.

the adaptor works in the air, obviously only one output at any one time.
the air is minidisplayport AND thunderbolt in one as got firewire and lan adaptor too.
