I just put in a 240GB Sandisk SSD this morning into this laptop..im thinking of removing the optical drive to put in my HDD in there. It has another 250GB in it, smart move on an old laptop like this? Im also thinking of putting in 12gb memory ram into this..Can someone give me an advice if its worth it at all? It runs excellent. :)

If your not really using the optical drive why not? never done it personally. I use mine here and there, so I just did a 240gb SSD and went to 8GB RAM and she's running great!

Yea i dont use the optical drive much really. What SSD did you get? i read about samsung being great and all but best buy had sandisk for 83$ for 240gb ssd, so i jump ship for that.

Whats the purpose of having a HDD and SSD area? I only want to do this cos i heard of it..but whats the use for it? to store many files in diff drives?

I used a ADATA SP550. It came from an ADATA SV620 portable SSD drive my friend gave me. it worked out great as i used the enclosure for the 500gb FireCuda dive I had in it originally.

Never done the dual bay thing. I only ever used the old HHD, then switched to SSD as they are way faster then the old HHD platter drives.

So should I get a higher SSD instead of putting something the optical drive area?
I would. 480 & 512gb's are moe then enough space. For me as I also use an external portable HD to back up my files (pics, tracks, and such) since I only have only a 240gb in her now in addition to my 2016 15.5" MacBook Pro (Also with a 256gb SSD).

The removal of the optical drive is overkill on an older machine.

If you want to upgrade the RAM, buy a -single- 8gb DIMM and install that.
Cheap and effective.

My sister has a 2010 white MacBook. I replaced the HDD with an SSD a year or so ago, and it's doing fine for its age.

I could only afford the 250gb on the samsung evo 850, so i exchanged the sandisk one for the samsung. Where can I only just get a single 8gb? How much would it be?
